Use joe's hopper--various sizes, but go a bit bigger than the bugs you see.

I almost exclusively use muddler minnows as hoppers. you don't have to treat them either--'cause of the deer/elk hair. Skate them like you would a caddis. Best success is casting across currents and letting the fly hit the water and instantly skating it about 6" or a foot, then let it set for a couple secs. then start skating it at different rates until they start hitting it consistantly and then stick to that rhythm.

I can promise you the loudest and hardest strikes of the season with this fly and this retrieval.
