I'm probably not the most technical fisherman. I generally will tie a 7.5-9' leader to my fly line and use loop connections to taper to a 5x tippet. Most of the time I try to fish with 11-14 feet of leader/tippet material. I don't have trouble rolling it over but do occassionally get the proverbial wind knot.

Because I fish warm water quite often, I like to use loop connections to switch my end tippet to 3x ('cause bass, bream and crappie aren't to finicky and I can really rip some jaw with the higher test line).

I also am prone to changes flies quite often, and I'd prefer to just tie on another loop and change my leader maybe twice a year--saves money and works.

not pretty but effective
