Two major advantages of this fly is that it is easy to see because of the white wing post, and it floats well. Most ant patterns do neither. This is also what I call my "hatch buster", which simply means that trout will often take this fly even when they are selectively feeding on a specific aquatic insect hatch. Lastly, this is any easy fly to tie. With a little practice even a novice fly tyer can make one in under three minutes.
