Steve, I have a fishing buddy who uses a 16 foot
ClackaCraft on the Hiwassee. We always go
river right (northern side) at Stairstep. The guides seem to always take that route. I feel there is no good way. SS kills a driftboat. I wouldn't run it without at least 2500+ cfs. Once this summer we almost lost it when we hung on a rock. You might want to stop and ask some of the guides at Hiwassee Outfitters for their suggestions. Good Luck!

Can anyone advise on the best route across the "Stairsteps" to avoid trashing the boat. I've seen boats go over it before but never really paid attention to the route.
