I haven't tried one, but I'm in the market for a small reel for 2-wt line. What kind of drag does the reel have? The Orvis Clearwater isn't a bad reel, I've heard. I've got three of the Battenkill reels, which are pretty good, although they cost more.

I agree fly reels cost more than they should. So do rods.
