Went out to Missoula 8/8-8/16 and had a fantastic trip. Float fished the Bitterroot 3 days, the Blackfoot 2, and waded the Rock 1 day. The Bitter and Black were great, even with typically low water. Hoppers were just starting, so you may catch the tail end of that season. Also try what they call a Chernobyl Ant, which will probably turn your nose if you are a purist, but it brings larger fish up to the surface. Foam fly with Madame X style legs. Sometimes in crazy colors. Grizzly Hackle off of Broad Street in town should hav'em. Great Shop and people. Although this is over a month old, the upper stretches of the Bitter above Hamilton were more productive. Have fun and take advantage of the great food in town (The Bridge and The Depot are good examples) . You wouldn't expect it, but it is there.
