what happens when the season closes?

I have spent most of my fishing time in GA on the year round streams- Tallulah near the Coleman River and the Chatooga near Burrell's Ford. I am wondering where to go (other than those 2 rivers) when the season closes.
What do you all know about good places to go in the fall? I have heard that fall is one of the better times to fish for trout. If I were to go up to the mountains in a few weeks, could anyone suggest a good place to try?
I'm not asking for a secret hole, just a suggestion of a few new places to try. I'd appreciate your advice...
