: I'm planning my 1st fly fishing trip to N. GA in late Sept./early Oct. I'm an experienced smallmouth angler, but a novice trout fisherman. ANY recommendations on where to go and what fly patterns to use are greatly appreciated.
Fish the Chattooga.Go to Clayton,Ga.,turn right near center of town onto Warwoman Road,go East about 11 miles to Ga28,turn right and go to
bridge over river and a short distance you will see a road(?)that is on your left, take it and go to parking lot.Take the the path that leads
left towards river.Don't take path that leads right unless your a Mountain Goat. When you get to the river cross to far side and fish upstream
You could fish at 28 bridge but is often crowded and the 1st pool above(50yds)is to deep to get through and walking the banks is tuff! Now what
to use----Montana nymph,Wooley Bugger---fish these on bottom!!and right into the swift water.Their are browns here and they behave much like S.M.
I would stay alert for surface activity.Even if not I would try a Muddler fish dry---cast upstream let it float down on surface, when it gets below
strip hard make that think dive. This can be deadly at times.Remember fish it dry(nonweighted)first then like streamer back up.Good Luck and enjoy the
