: This will be my first winter in Georgia and was wondering if this state experiences stone fly hatches in the middle of winter like my homestate of maryland does? What rivers are recommended for fishing in Dec/Jan/Feb?
For a great place to fish this winter,
try the Nottely River in Union County.
The Browns get particularly active in
November and December, and the Rainbows
get huge and hungry then too. This river
is not at all scenic - it borders on a
road (hwy 129) and private property. Also,
because of some strange decision by DNR, I
think it is open year round and doesn't
require a trout stamp (I might be mistaken).
Anyway, it is stocked heavily but fished
sparsely, for whatever reasons. On the surface
this river sounds miserable, but down deep it will
produce huge fish - but keep it our NGTO secret.
