Bruce, if you are fishing one of the mountain streams the fish are not pickey. Try a royal wulff, parachute adams, or elk hair caddis in size 14 or sixteen .
For nymphs try a zug bug, hares ear,prince or stone fly.
Streams may be low and clear in October so stealth and presentation is more important than what's on the end of your leader.
