: Anyone ever tried the new felt-less wading shoe? They look like some kind of neopreen cleated sole and don't have any felt at all.
: Some of the places I go fishing are pretty bad for slippery rocks. Often I'm miles away from any help should I take a bad fall and I really want to be sure of my step.
: Sometimes I have to do a lot of hard climbing over steep, loose, pine and leaf littered mountain slopes and here again, a slip or slide into a rock filled gorge would not make for a good day.
: Am considering buying some wading shoes soon and want to make the right choice. The new felt-less shoes look nice for hiking but would they grip on wet slippery rocks?
: Any info would be much appreciated.
: Thanks, B.C.
L.L. Bean is advertising a new feltless wading shoe. Their ad says
it was developed in a joint effort with a climbing shoe company. Two
different reviews I have read (I can't remeber for sure which magazines,
but I think it was Fly Fisherman and Grey's Sporting Journal) both gave
the shoes high marks. They claim to stick as well as felt on slippery wet
rocks, and much better than felt when hiking in on pine needles and leaves.
I have also heard they are having a hard time filling orders. I haven't had
the opportunity to try the shoes myself. If anyone has actually tried them,
I would like to hear your opinion.
