I have fished Conasauga many times over iast 15 or
so yrs.my advice go in at Rough Ck.trail when you get
to river hike up past Pather Ck.trail about 3/4-1mile
before you fish.Use 18 or smaller b.w.o.,dorato,or
elk hair caddis. The Jacks is my all time in aug&sept
Go in at Bear Camp Ck. trail.Add Grasshopper to list
of flies: : How is the fishing on the Conasauga River in August?
: : I am planning an annual trip with a good friend.
: : I have fished the Jacks a few times. Is it just as good?
: : How is the foot trafic?
: I've fished the Conasauga a few times in late summer when the water is low and crystal clear. With these conditions, you'll probably see plenty of fish but they'll be really spooky which requires sneaking up on them and making good presentations. I've had some luck with black ants at this time of year. With my eyesight, I can't see the ant on the water and usually fish it as a dropper off a more-visible dry fly like an elk hair caddis. You should expect a lot of back packers and day hikers in the area but there plenty of river so you should find a stretch to have to yourself even if there are a few other fishermen. Good luck!
