Roger, the trout fishing in S.C.is very under rated. When I was a grad student in
the early 60's,I enjoyed some very fine trout fishing on the Chatooga, the East Fork
(be sure to try it above the Hatchery),the Chauga(off 28 near Co. road 280)where the
states largest brown was caught while I lived at Clemson.Over near Pickens you have
Eastatoe a real gem,then there is Laurel fork,Thompson R.Whitewater R.and when I
lived there there Bear Ck.Horsepasture but alas lake Jocassee took care of those streams.
East of Pickens over near Ceasar's Head in the Saluda drainage there are some small brown
trout streams that you will just have to look for--I found one that I could jump across
that I regulary caught 14"wild browns out of on worms and crickets--Yeah I will admit it
--In fact that is how I discovered if these little streams had trout.I did this mostly in
winter when I had the whole area to myself.Good luck.grw
