It may be that corn people refer to those that fish with corn.But I like to think it refers to moon- shiners.Back in 1960 I was fishing the Chatooga above Hy28 bridge and met 2 boys(one was a student at Clemson)that invited to eat dinner with them. There place(a log cabin)was where the parking area on the SC side is now.I will not give the family name for obvious reasons.About 6 months after I had dinner with them,I learn that the father made the best moonshine in Oconee Co.In fact a retired Army colonel made a deal that if the old man would supply him with all the moonshine he could drink the colonel would see to it that the older son would go to Clemson.-----It may be that trout go after corn because it looks like hatchery food but I believe they go after it because it looks like eggs(salmon or trout).Trout are notorious egg eaters and I think this is instinctive in them--that would also account for why wild trout will also go for corn.
