The grass carp were undoubtedly escapes from
farm ponds. Throughout Georgia they are used
by private pond owners for control of aquatic
weeds. Since they are native to rivers they
tend to do well in that habitat. They
frequently escape through spillways when
winter rains cause ponds to overflow.
