: : After many years of trout stalking with a fly rod, I am really amazed at the quality resources around here. But I do miss the limestone waters of Pennsylvania. Would anyone out there recommend limestone destinations within three to five hours of Atlanta. I hear that Tennessee and Arkansas may have some limestone waters. What I am looking for is finicky holdover fish, rich limestone waters, and varied hatches. Protected catch and release would be perfect. Small or large would be fine. Any gems out there that one would share with a lifetime fisherman?

: The Elk R.tailwater below Tims Ford dam near Winchester,Tn.is
: in the Cumberland Plateau(Cumberland Mnts)This I believe is
: mostly limestone, the stream below T.F.dam has a lot of weed
: growth and seems to be quite fertile. The weeds are teeming
: with scuds, sowbugs, and Baetus nymphs and the trout(mostly Bows)
: went after tiny flies.I use to fish the stream frequently, haven,t
: in about 3 years.Remember it is a tailwater so you know the
: dangers and shortcomings.Another stream I have not fished but
: I have some information about is the Little Buffalo R.west of
: Lawrenceburg,Tn (again Cumberland Plat.)The trout (browns)water
: is on the Laurel Hill Wild.Manage.Area near the Natchez Trace.
: The Little Buffalo flows N.into the Buffalo R.one of Tn.better
: S.M.bass rivers. In Ark there is the White and Norfork near
: Mountain Home (they are fertile and great!!)and the Little Red
: near Heber Springs(world record Brown-40+lbs)is also a great
: tailwater. The book Home Waters publ.by Mid south Flyfishers and
: the book Ozark Trout Tales can be purchased from Feathercraft in
: St.Louis,Mo.are excellent books and I highly recommend them.Hope
: this helps.E mail me for any other assistance.I have FF the White
: many times under high flow and low flow.GRW

Frank--Also,the DeLorme Map Comp.has a Tennessee Atlas and Gazetteer
for sale--(topo maps!N.A.for Ga.,yet)you will find the ELK on p.22 and
the Little Buffalo on p.19.GRW
