: After many years of trout stalking with a fly rod, I am really amazed at the quality resources around here. But I do miss the limestone waters of Pennsylvania. Would anyone out there recommend limestone destinations within three to five hours of Atlanta. I hear that Tennessee and Arkansas may have some limestone waters. What I am looking for is finicky holdover fish, rich limestone waters, and varied hatches. Protected catch and release would be perfect. Small or large would be fine. Any gems out there that one would share with a lifetime fisherman?
Abrams Creek in the Great Smoky Mountain NP supposedly has some limestone influence...a large portion of the creek flows underground....similar to some sections of Fishing Creek around Lamar, PA. It is also supposed to have some of the most varied hatches in the region. Unfortunately, I have little experience fishing there.
Good Luck...and let us know of any undiscovered gems ;)
