There are some excellent streams very close to Lake Burton. Probably
the most popular and most crowded during weekends is the Tallulah River
and its tributary, Coleman Creek, north of Lake Burton. Wildcat Creek is
located on the West side of the Lake. I suspect that if you have a boat, you
can travel up the Tallulah from Lake Burton and probably get into some areas
that are not as heavily fished as those accessible by road. The Chattahooche
and Smith's Creek north of Helen are a short drive from Lake Burton. Be sure
and go by Unicoi Outfitters if you decide to hit Smith's Creek and the "Hooch."
You'll get great information on stream conditions and what the trout are hitting.
