You decide what keeps you happy, but you do not have to spend tons of cash to enjoy fly fishing in North Georgia. If you want to , that is fine. My advice, try that Sports Store outside Norcross that used to be called Atlanta Rec and Sports. Superb stuff at fair prices. Not status, but you can outfit a good eight foot, five weight outfit for just over a hundred bucks.Or just take a drive North of Helen to our sponsor of this message board-Unicoi outfitteres. Great gear, great selection, and really fair prices.I am not a name and status person, as you can tell. My current gear after twenty five years of fly fishing for a North Georgia trip? Felt soled hip boots,an eight foot 5 or 6 weight graphite outfit, a large fanny pack with perhaps eight different flies in various sizes and a few other sundry necessities. Oh, a pack for the boots makes sense as one hikes in. Pick up a good book on small stream fishing (Meck's is a good one)and learn to stalk and roll cast.By the way, you can build your own top notch rod for a hundred bucks, easy. There are superior reels out there for forty bills, also. If you want any further names, just ask on the board. Enjoy the native trout
