: : Is Island Ford the same thing as Bowman's Island?

: Island Ford is a different place - about 27 miles downstream from Bowman's Island. Its very close to GA 400 - if you pick up a Hooch map at the dam and take a look its easy to find. I will mention that its a little tricky to get to by road but its generally worth the effort.

The "Island Ford Shoals" are located directly behind Martins Landing in Roswell, off Riverside Dr. This used to be a good way to access the river,
but the DNR restricted the parking along this road, 4 or so years ago (I used to live there). There are a few places to park back there though.
Your other alternative is to go down to Northridge Dr., off 400. Continue straight through the traffic light, and take a right on Roberts Dr., accross
from the Coca Cola Distributor. Continue 2 or so miles, and turn into the park on the right. There are several parking area to access the river at various
points. Be warned though. This is the season for the kids to start haning out on the rocks. It gets REAL crowded down there on nice weekends. The scenery isn't
that bad though ;-) The northeren end of the shoals will be your better bet, since there are less big rocks for the kids to party on. I've caught a lot of fish
in this area, and know it extremely well. I could be on the river, 5 minutes after leaving my house.
