: My buddy and I fished the Hooch on Saturday May the 17th. The water was clear and there was a large number of people out that day. We did not have any luck that day I only caught 2 browns and my buddy did not catch any. We did not see but two fish caught by other fishermen. We floated from the Dam to Hwy 20.
: Where were all the fish????? What were they biting on?????
: Hope to have more luck next weekend.
I fished that day as well, below Jones Bridge Park. I had a 2 friends along, one that has been flyfishing for 3-4 years; I'm just
breaking the other into it. From 9am to noon, we caught between 25 and 30 fish. I caught 14, the others caught 5 - 8 each. The
pattern was hatch was fairly sparse, so I fished an attractor pattern for the first 5 fish. After 5 I started catching fish on small
brown caddis emergers. I alternated between that and a # 16 grey caddis, but the emerger seemed to be the better bite. I even dropped
the emerger below the caddis, which worked as well I eventually started lunker hunting with larger nymphs. GR hares ear #10 & 12,
and a #6 daves stone fly. (which didn't produce, but what the heck, I was just looking for one bite on this big guy). None of my fish exceeded
12 inches, but my fly fishing partner caught an 18" brown on a brown caddis.
The other friend of mine was using spinning tackle, and observing our technique. He didn't catch many until I gave him a gold on yellow
panther martin. The the body had a little bit of brown on the back, and the hook was bare. Now that I think about it, I think he caught all
of his fish on it.
