5:45am - Savannah River tailwater @ Lake Hartwell -
When I arrived, it was still dark, but I could hear
occassional, loud, slurping rises in flatter water just
in front of overlook platform. As sky lightened, I
eased into water and cast, almost blind, to splashes.
On about my third or fourth cast, I got a hard take
with an immediate run upstream. Turned out to be a 14"
rainbow - my best fish ever here, as most are smaller
stocklings. He took an elk-hair caddis, though at that
point I beleive they would have took anything.
This turned out to be my only fish, as the rises
stopped with sun-up. Huge pods of carp were cruising
all over the river - never saw them like this before.
