: Thanks for the tip. I'll be heading up there next month with two old friends, one is a fly fishing bass fisher and
: the other uses spinning tackle. I've never been to Dukes before and want to show these two out-of-staters a good time,
: so if you have any more tips please post them.
Unfortunately my regular trips to Dukes have been limited over the past few weeks. Up till June I had managed a trip a
week. The last few weeks in May resulted in 20" plus fish each time. I typically use UL spinning as I am more productive
than with my fly rod. I did get a very nice fish hooked up on the fly but there was just no way for me to keep him on.
As for tips for your spinning friend... thin diameter line, smaller hooks, three basic baits(fish pellet imitation, green
worm, natural/red worm). Those are the baits I have found to work on 95% of N. Ga. streams. I did not fish but was at Dukes
about June 8 and the water was clear and low. I don't know what the conditions are like with the recent rains. They can be
very tough in either extreme. Sometimes when the water is high and you would assume that they might be more opportunistic,
they are very slow. Even though there are many fish, it is still quite a challenge.
