Thank You Netboy, I took your advice, drove an hour, and had a great January day on the 'Hooch. I also got to meet FlygURL in the parking lot....Glad to meet you.
The river was low but slightly stained from last weeks rain, but was fishable. I fished my "failsafe" - CH Black Wooly Booger with a BH Prince nymph dropper for two hours without a hit. I switched to a BH olive WB with a BH hares ear and caught two browns in twenty minutes. I could have left the nymph off as both fish nailed the WB. One fish was a nubby fin stocker, and one was a 12" beauty. Around 4:00 I saw some surface activity near the tree below the island and tried an EHC that got zero interest. But the size 22 Griffiths Gnat got two strikes and one nice - 12" - brown still in spawning colors.
Three fish, one on a dry, in January. I have had better days on the 'Hooch but not this time of year. If the generating schedule holds for tomorrow, grab your rod and go in the morning. February is coming.
