Fishing Report (cross posted to the Stream Reports)….Monday 01/18/99

Myself and Little Drifter (6 years old) fished Abbott’s Bridge today. We motored upstream about 2 to 3 miles to fish. We saw many Herons standing on the fallen trees looking for fish (there’s a clue). The water was clear, no generation, and 54 degrees. The air temp was around 60 degrees. The small white midges were coming off along with some size 16 slate gray caddis. No fish were seen rising. The wind was gusty at times but we were able to work around it. I tried beadhead Hares ear, Pheasant tail, elk hair caddis, with no luck. We fished countdown Rapalas and Rooster tails. I boated (1) 10 inch brown trout on the yellow rooster tail with gold blade. I had another brown up to the boat but Little Drifter had problems with the net and the fish came off. I had three more fish hooked but they immediately wriggled free. The fish were in close to the fallen trees. I didn’t have any strikes out in the main channel.

There was a small boy (about 7 or 8 years old) fishing on the ramp when we returned. He hadn’t caught anything so I gave him a yellow roostertail and the little brown trout. As we pulled the boat up the ramp I saw the boy’s father walking toward the ramp. I heard the boy shouting, "Daddy, Daddy, look what I caught!" Dad immediately began quizzin’ him on where and how! I guess it’s never to early for a fisherman to learn how to lie http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/wink.gif

The weather was nice and Little Drifter learned to cast his new ultra-light outfit. He hung up with several "tree trout". All in all it was a good day to be on the river.
