Last year my wife and I hired a guide for a half-day casting lesson. I won't name the guide because I think he is a frequent user of this page. But he was truly outstanding. He took us from our first casts ever to landing mid-sized browns in about 5 hours.
I really thought he went above and beyond the call of duty so I gave him a tip that I thought was good--$25.00. I assumed that he got a substantial portion of what I paid the flyshop owner and the tip would be on top of that. This was the first time I had hired a guide and didn't know what the normal tip amount is, but that seemed like a lot to me. Neither his reaction nor the shopowner's confirmed that belief.
Did I commit a faux-pas? Was that too little? I might still be able to make amends if it was.
