Tom,
Is this Chastain Branch the one that feeds Mocassin Creek?
Tommy
Tom,
Is there a description of what is being done on these projects anywhere (somebody's web page)? Are there specific rendevous spots? Do they need volunteers or materials of any kind donated? Saturday is already obligated but I often drag my two young boys up into the mountains on Saturdays and it wouldn't hurt to be productive as well. I don't know how much I could contribute while watching the kids but I could bring cokes and beer (unless frowned upon, some people don't like coke).
As with most joint projects with the DNR and/or the USFS, the state or federal agency furnishes the materials, the equipment, etc., to do the job at hand. TU and other interested parties, furnish the labor. (Some financing on the part of TU or others has already been arranged).
In the case of Smith Creek, I would imagine, but do not speak on behalf of anybody, the work would be on removing the silt and sediment from the stream bed, meaning restrictor dams, deflectors or perhaps, just cover logs so that the trout could find some refuge.
The rendezvous point would be the parking lot down at the stream, about 9 o'clock AM.
In answer to Tommy, yes. The Foothills Chapter of TU will be the host TU Chapter, the USFS, Clarkesville (The Chattooga District's Office) will be in charge of the project.
Sorry I didn't cover everything. Keep the cokes hidden. I'll take a beer. Thanks!
