Hey Y’all
The following is a copy of the post I just sent to to the FlyFish@ listserver regarding NEG Clave. A number of you have expressed your interest so I've posted it here and in the General Information forum as well. Hope to see y'all there.
With all the talk of clavin’ on the List lately, I did a quick check of the calendar and discovered its less than 2 months till NEG Clave (51 days to be exact) and its time for a NEG Update. Time flies when you’re having fun, don’t it?!
IMPORTANT NEWS!!
I called the GA DNR today to make my reservation for my campsite and it occurred to me to check to see home many campsites they still have available – only 18 (Out of 84) are left! If you’re planning to attend and haven’t already made a reservation you need to do so ASAP. Those of you who have already reserved your campsite, please let me know. If you’re planning to be there or even think you might, please let me know so I can start compiling an attendee list. Should they run out of campsites I’m sure we can double up on some sites if we need to and some folks with larger tents (and extra room) might be willing to share their space. If all else fails, there are a good number of hotel/motel rooms available nearby.
ATTENDEES
Here’s a list of the folks that have let me know they’re gonna make it to NEG (ranging from “I’m planing to be there but…” to “I’ll be there come hell or high water”):
Steve Davenport & Family
Doc Shaffer
Shawn Brannon
L.J. DeCuir
Donald Yelton
Tom Wallace
Scott Cunningham
Salty Stines
Walt Whitman
Danny Walls
Mike Ray
James Buice
Tom Lantzy & Family
A CORRECTION
In my original NEG Clave announcement, I indicated that Smith’s Creek, a delayed harvest stream, would be open for harvest in March. A friend of mine here in Atlanta caught the goof and reminded me that the stream opens for harvest in May (14th I’m told). This won’t affect the clave itself but anyone thinking about heading up early for a scouting trip should check the regs before keeping any fish. I’m sure the folks at the check-in desk at the Unicoi SP Lodge can supply the needed info.
THE RAFFLE
Keep in mind that this year’s raffle will be a standard clave raffle – bring a prize – win a prize and entry is limited to those who are fishing (meaning you can’t enter your better half and the kids just to get extra goodies if they don’t fish – since this is primarily a get-together of flyfishers – flyfishing is preferred). We’re still working on getting additional prized from flyshops, manufacturers, and other sources so hopefully we can go around more than once. We’ll be “passing the hat” (OK, it’ll actually be more like an empty mayonnaise) for donations for the FF@ Youth Camp Fund (Please do not let this comment spark another debate about whether FF@ should be a service organization or not). Should we receive a particularly nice prize we may consider a silent auction as well.
EATS
Donald is still planning on making his usual pots of jambalaya on Saturday night. Donald also tells me he’s predicting mid-summer cannoli hatch on NE Georgia instead of the usual late summer/early fall hatch
MAPS
I can still get the DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer (1998 Edition) for Georgia for about $10.95 plus tax (6%). If anyone would like me to pick one up get in touch with me and we’ll work out payment arrangements. I’ll probably pick the maps up about 2 weeks before clave time.
