View Full Version : So, how'd it go?
Wish I could've been there. A good day at work is worse than a bad day fishin.

Sorry I could not make it. My daughter decided Friday night that she did not want to go fishing. I guess being a girl I was afraid sooner or later she would lose her interest in fishing. Anyway the son should be ready in about 4 years.

It was a memorable day. Lots of kids and families having a great time. My personal highlight for the day-a little boy named Jack (no relation to me). Jack is 2 1/2 yrs old. He took up a spot on the boat ramp. Jack caught a fish early on and fired his interest for hours. His aunt brought him to the event. Jack had a new open face spinning rig about twice as tall as he was. He could reel it like a pro. The shop where they bought the rig gave Jack a fishing cap-that he wore with pride. Jack never once laid his rod down. When others tired and began to play, Jack remained intently concentrated on the water and his line. When he needed a new worm, he didn't wait to be served, he dug his own worm from the cup , handed it to me and said nothing, knowing that I recognized his need. Jack held that big rod and stood on those tiny legs in "his spot" fishing for 3 hours without one word of complaint, with no hint of tiring. His concentration was total and his fishing was his mission. When it was time to go, Jack had to be asked to leave. This was a rare example of a natural born fisherman. One whose love and appreciation for the sport will be an inspiration to him for the rest of his life. When I looked at Jack-I was looking at me.

The day went great, except for the low number of fish caught. I would have felt a lot better if everyone could have caught a couple. Like TOM said, Little Jack was a highlight. I've got a picture to post of him and his way too big fishing rig. Wish I would have a gotten a picture of him with Big Jack (TOM), they made the perfect fishing pair. It was also good to meet lots of the NGTO people. Got to put some faces with names and names with handles. I also caught 2 trout myself (after the kid's thing was over of course). Can't believe it took 10+ years for me to catch one again. I'm looking forward to many more. Also, FYI, we stocked 20 BIG trout that day as well. One was taken after the kid's day was over. It was probably 20 inches or so and went quickly into a cooler. Oh well, that leaves 19 more out there. Good luck!
Was a blast, and cannot wait for the next one. The little kids were hilarious, from the ones telling mom or dad "Your fishing wrong, you gotta let the line sit.", to the ones making mudpies, to the ones trying to catch the trout coming out of the buckets in their hands, or the one I showed a fish too and the little tyke was frightened, excited and very curious at the same time (also a little mad at me cuz I informed him he couldnt have it unless he caught it. He told his dad on me!).
But it was a blast, and good to meet people and put faces to names. Cant wait for the next Kids Fishing Day!
