View Full Version : Fly Fling, whose comin early to fish.
Hey everyone,
I was curious who else is showing up early to beat the water to a health froth before everyone else shows up.
I do not have a float tube (and I am leaving for the Smokies afterwards) but would like to fish/meet up with some folks before this Fling thing kicks in.
Anyone there early???

Me and Dad might just fish as we do any saturday at Jones Bridge, but we'll just stop fishing for the fling, and then go fish some more afterwards. Get there in the morning, leave in the evening. I'm Not sure.
I plan on being there at dawn and fishing until the fling starts.
Depending on how I can arrange my work on Sat. I have to go in early, do some stuff then leave for a while and go back to the office for a while. If I get done with my early morning stuff, I'll fish. Otherwise see ya at the fling. I don't have a float so I'll be wading. J. Byrd

I will be there as early as anyone wants to meet, let me know when and where.....
barring hangover, I am going to try and be there no later than 7am. I will be in white jeep cherokee, beat up waders, and green hat with sc state flag emblems on it(more than likely)

How could we miss all of that? http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif
The Owl will see you there at 6 am providing he can find the correct side of the river. The one with the bldg. , right?
Owl
I'll be tar'd and featherd already to avoid the embarrsment of having it done to me later by Tom and the TU crew. http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif
Hopefully it will appear to the fish to be camo !

W.M.,
I am coming early. Plan on being there around 6 am, so come on and join us. Thought I would try the Gwinnett side first to see if the gate is open. If not then the other side. Let me know if you are coming early and we'll suit you up.

what I would like to know is...What is the earliest that anyone has seen the gate open on the boat ramp side. I Have been there at 7:00am and had to wait for the "Gate Master" to open it. I hope you all get in ok. I am going to try and do a little wadding before the fling I should be at the boat at the Fulton side around 6:30 if the gate is open ...if not I'll see ya at the gate...But don't forget about the float after the Fling.
P.S. If anyone finds out the generation schedule for Saturday on friday night...Please post it ASAP as it will save allot of people an early trip to the Jones Bridge.
Fish...on...

I got your drift-but not everyone elses. We talked about the gate at JB Park (Gwinnett)- right. And someone said it isn't open until 8:00 am. But then everyone said-well we're going to the boat ramp (Fulton County side). The gate is locked there too. Sooooo-how the hell is anybody going to fish at DAWN or 6:00 am????? Is there a hike to water in this plan? Maybe around the gates??
O.M.
Its a good little hike into the boat launch and even further to the waddable area up river. I think they open the gate a 7:00 or so on the Fulton side. I am going to show up at 6:30ish and do some chatting with who ever else is there waiting. I remember last year there were a couple of times I got there early and the gate was closed, but I sure did enjoy talking with all the other people waiting to get in...you learn alot from other people..If you are coming get there a little early and soak up some on a good chat session. At least I will talk to you... http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/wink.gif
BTW...What summer camp are you going to this year?......LOL

Well, looks like I'm back in (thanks again to ICHTHUS). I'm with Owl on the getting there too early thing. I'm not a morning person at all! Sounds like we need to settle on a time and place. I'd make a suggestion but I've never been there. Speaking of that, how would one get there from south of Atlanta? I'll be where ever/when ever ICHTHUS tells me to be (else I'll be might wet and cold http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif ).
I was lucky to find my way to the fling last time and this time I got to find my way to the other side if I want to fish before 8:00?
I'll try to be there at 6:30 also but if you see a big white van wondering around looking lost (chunk a rock or something) it'll be me.
Same goes for me, I have to be at work around 5:30am for about an hour, then I'm leaving for the Fling. Question is, do I stay up all night or go to bed early. I'm more than likely staying up so if you see a guy asleep in a black jeep, smack me a few time and point me in the right direction. See ya there. J. Byrd
too much confusion, i can't get no relief... after re-reading this thread is sounds like everyone is meeting on the fulton county side of JB park sometime before the gates open at 7am, correct? well, i'll be there in tandem with the other half. look for a green saturn coupe, but don't throw rocks at it http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif

Dumb question time! Since i'll be coming north on P'tree industrial blvd how do I get to the other side? Cross at holcomb bridge or cross at Medlock bridge and then where do I go? HELP! I'm talking about arriving early to fish i,m pretty sure I can find my way to the fling again.
Fellow flingers-
May I suggest a convention that has worked for other cyber groups that arrange meetings?
The usual convention is to add a sign to the inside of the car that has written in big letters the group you are planning to meet. In this case, if each flinger would put a sign that says @NGTO in the front window, fellow members can be identified easily, quickly and without wasting valuable fishing time.
I'm not sure that I can make it for this year's fling. But if I do manage it, is there anyplace that is open 24 hours for me to get a license and trout stamp late at night or early in morning, depending on your perspective?
Regards, DA
WalMart should have them - most of them are 24 hours...
I don't think I will be fishing in the morning, but definitely floating down to Holcomb Bridge afterwards!

W.M.,
Fulton side at 0630 it is. Does anyone know someone from the park service who might be able to open the gate a little early. Maybe that fella that helped NGTO with the clean up has a key.
B.T.
Once on Holcomb Br go west until you cross the river. Next road to the right(1/8 to 1/4 mile) is Barnwell. Go right. Go to second park entrance(1/4 to 1/2 mile).
Ich
Her are directions to the Fulton side where Jones Bridge is located:
From 400 N.....exit Holcomb bridge Rd. Go east about five miles and start looking for the Chick Filet resturant on you left...After you p****CF the next light will be Barnwell...Turn left and go abou 1 1/2 miles and you will see the sign for the enterance..it will be on the right.
From Peachtree Indutrial coming from the North: Take Peachtree industrial to to Holcomb Bridge(From the north it will be just past the Target store). Turn right on Holcomb Bridge and follow it to the T...Turn right ( you will still be on Holcom Bridge at this point). Follow Holcomb Bridge for about 3 miles and you will cross the Hooch...After you cross the Hooch you will want to turn right at the next light which will be Barnwell....Follow Barnwell for about a mile and a half and look for the sign on your right.
Peachtree Idustrial coming from the South: Exit Jimmy Carter Blvd. and go west...Jimmy Carter will turn into Holcomb Bridge after about a mile or so. Follow Holcomb Bridge for about 3 miles and you will cross the Hooch...After you cross the Hooch you will want to turn right at the next light which will be Barnwell....Follow Barnwell for about a mile and a half and look for the sign on your right.
I will be checking my e-mail tonight so If you need any special directions please e-mail me ASAP.

davida,
You can purchase your fishing license and trout stamp over the Internet at http://www.permit.com
Much easier than going to the Meg-a-low Mart at wee hours http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/wink.gif
