View Full Version : FALL FLING - DETAILS DETAILS DETAILS
Putting together a master information sheet to email out and post... I would like to send this out Monday night to all the participants and also update the events page with the info. Some things we still need:
1. Complete driving directions.. from the North, South, East, and West...
2. Hoochrat/EG call me or email me about food (H 770-420-0653) or (W 404-467-3132)
3. If anyone else needs to call me please do so.
4. NGTO is fronting the money for the house and covering the difference - so if you want to stay is the house just come one down, it seems there will be plenty of room.
5. Thanks for the guide Drifter, this will be posted as part of the final fling email.
I do have this map:

Aaron et al,
The quickest way to the HI from Atlanta is to go north on I-75 and exit at U.S. 411 (exit 126 I think?). Continue on U.S. 411 north, into Tennessee. After passing through Benton, TN (speed trap) travel approximately six (6) miles to TN 30. (It's a right turn about a mile past Chillhowee Gliderport. Turn right on TN 30 and travel approximately five (5) miles to Hiwassee Outfitters on the left. It's just past Webb's Grocery.

Nov. 12,13,14 - 3rd Annual NGTO Fall Fling!
Hiwassee River Campground (Hiwassee Outfitters). Join us at Hiwassee Campground for great fun, food, and trophy fishing on the Hiwassee River. NGTO has reserved a large camp house (sleeps 14) as well as several camp cabins and there is plenty of room
for everyone. You can stay in the house, cabins, campsite, or in a nearby hotel (Etowah). The house is $10-$15 per night (NGTO will cover any difference), cabins range from $40 per night (sleeps 4), campsites are $4 per night.
Some folks are coming early (Thursday night), some Friday, and even more Saturday morning...
Everyone is welcome, so bring a friend!
The event schedule is wide-open, however a big dinner is planned for Saturday night (13th).

For those still contemplating going to the Fling, and maybe don't want
to stay in a the house or a cabin, (maybe taking your wife or
girlfriend); Etowah, Tenn. is on up the road from the hwy 30 turn off-on
up 411 north. Etowah has motels, restaurants, fast food, antique shops
and chain grocery stores.
The Drifter will be handing out the official "NGTO Flinging on The Hi" guide upon arrival which details on
the river and how to fish it.
Items to bring for sure:
Yourself
Your gear
PFD (Life Jacket)
float-tube (if you have one)
sleeping bag (in case we run out of beds at the house)
You can get a TN license (in addition to other gear if needed) at HI Outfitters.
Directions:
From the South - courtesy Ole Man:
I-75 N to Exit 126 (Hwy 411 N), turn right on Hwy 411 North. Proceed
North through Fairmount, Ranger, Eton,Chatsworth, across the Ga/Tenn
line and on through Benton, Tenn. After passing through Benton, look
for Tenn Hwy 30 on the right-near Hiwassee Mini-Mart and
DryflyOutfitters (see them on the left). Turn right on Hwy 30 and you
will soon begin to parallel the river after a couple of miles (and man
is it pretty). Proceed about six miles on Hwy 30 to the little community
of Reliance, Tenn. When you see the bridge over the river and Webs Store
on the corner, proceed on straight (on hwy30) until you see the Hiwassee
Outfitters sign on the left-just before entering a sharp curve. Turn
left, proceed few hundred yards , go underneath the railroad trestle and
you will see HO Store/Flyshop/BathHouse and Rafting Operation straight
ahead. Across the large flat lawn from the Store, you will see The Big
House. Campgrounds and camp cabins/bunkhouse are behind that. The
furnished rental cabins are back up off of Hwy 30 between Webs Store
and the HO sign. All checkins are done in the Hi Outfitters Store. Mike
Smth and his brother are the managers. C.J. Jaynes is the Guide Service
Manager.

Drifter -- Would it be better for me to go across 20 and hit 75 up or can I go straight up and hit 5 and then up. I live off exit 15 off GA 400.
My play toy jeep is not a speed machine. However, show me some mud and rocks and step back.

Heck, the way everyone is posting. Think I will bring the Golden Pen DeepSea rod and reel. Grizz, I don't know.. I think you guys have fished the heck out of this water.
Suggestions: 3 - 5 - 7 or 9 weight. What do you suggest. I am kind of limited to room in the jeep and I do not want to bring the Tahoe. Riding in Tahoe does not give me a mind for adventure. Plus, if I scratch the Tahoe there is hell to pay, the jeep. Hell thats why I got a jeep. Crash and burn, not really... But it's all mine and I can do with it as I see fit. Ever seen me get HOOCHED and burn a vehicle... It's Fun, might try it on the trip. It sort of sets you apart from the others.
JOKE
See you up there Griz. Which ROD!!!

Ole Man - So you have been coming onto FAOL. What name have you used, and it is my rod.
HoochRat - I would bring the 3 and 5 wt. I think the others are a little overkill, but then again I like casting smaller rods. Hooch I am also looking forward to dinner. Are you going to cook something up on the Nantahala too?

Ole Man...watch your rods. And if you fish with Jeff you need to watch out!!! If you get into a real good spot with lots of fish he'll cast into your holes and if you still keep catching fish he'll throw rocks at you. But alas! I keep going back for more punishment...he's a great fishing buddy and oh the stories I can tell!
Grizz....I have to say...you're reputation is growing..and don't blame me. Seems Mike sees things my way....and Donna...just how many rods are actually yours? Winks sweetie! You know I love ya.

Grizz.. I am a little hurt by the passing of info between you's an Lady Jane. If you are going to take a ladies fishing flyrod (had to specify here did not want to get the real FLYrod in trouble), do the honorable thang son. Buy her some flies or tying stuff!!!
I will still be cooking at the Nat for the folks. That's if all make it past the NGTO dinner.. No need to pickup any road kill, I gota au bunch already. Having a problem keeping the ice on the meat thought. Boy it is hot and I sure hope the meat don't spoil anymore...
Funning Boys & Gals - Food is fresh and I promise it will be good. Except for what NiteOwl is eating. Meow. Meow.
If I can just figure out how to get some of the digital photos e-mailed I will have it made. Driving me crazy, too many software programs..

Owl: So very sorry. Did not mean to confuse or offend any Jeff's. I was referring to Grizz, my main most best fishing bud on the Nant and the Hooch. And I ah...like...can't wait to out fish ...I mean fish with you either. See you Thanksgiving. In the meantime drop into FAOL chat...I host Tues from 7 to 9 on...and 9 to 11 on Fri. Anyone and every one is welcome. I don't promise we'll always talk about fishing. Sometimes we try to solve the worlds problems or just pick on Grizz..that's always good sport. We do think he's a cool dude.

Some folks have probably already left. I just spoke to the woman at Hiwassee Outfitters. She usually closes the store around 5 or 6 Friday night and she said they open at 8:00AM on Saturday. I was wondeing about buying a license if I get there later Friday night and want to fish early Saturday. She said there is a store at the corner of 411 and 30 that is open until about 10:00PM on Friday night and she thinks they sell licenses. Just food for thought.

The last post for the week. The bread pudding is cooling, and the Jeep is packed. Talked with Flyrod and he is heading out at 6 and me right behind him. If anyone sees a red Jeep with a belly tube sticking out all the windows, it's me - HoochRat on the move.
WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS - I tasted the pecan / rasin bread pudding with the Capt. Morgan rum sauce. You are not going to believe the taste. Bad Good......
