Thanks, Aaron, HoochRat, and all who made arrangements, cooked, or helped in any way to make this weekend a great one! Wow, what a supper HoochRat turned out! Real deal jambo yaya (African, I think, for what we call ham and okra) Of course, whoever was in charge of making sure we all caught a lot of fish deserves a whippin'. Other than that, it was a great weekend and I enjoyed putting some faces to names and fishing with the defectors who went over to the Nantahala both days.

Interesting thing about the effect of the internet and this board in particular. NightOwl and William M. and I were talking about this on the way back from the Nantahala Saturday. You might shake someone's hand for the first time at an NGTO event like this, but by then you feel like you already know them, so it's not like getting together with a bunch of strangers. It's more like meeting old friends.

Aaron - for all you do, this [virtual] Bud's for you! And let's hoist a Captain Morgan to HoochRat. Well done.

I couldn’t agree more. I also enjoyed watching the fly tying, the perky waitresses in Etowah, learning a couple of the prime kayak dumping spots on the Nantahala, my ride in the drift boat (where I caught a green trout), the fires Saturday night (gives new meaning to the ‘smoke filled room’), Rose’s cole slaw, Richard coming through the shoals like a giant wood colored bobber, my first brook trout, Owl bearing down on those brookies with a vengence, and the Rat swatting the hornets bare hand.

Some of the stories really stay with you. One of Flyrod’s stories will be disturbing my sleep for some time and I’m sticking with the synthetic dubbing instead of the possum.

Thanks to everyone who made it happen. Let’s do it again when the fish are on.

BeeDub,
I second your thanks to Aaron for the planning, and to HoochRat for the fabulous (I presume) dinner. I'm really disappointed that I missed it, and all the comraderie that accompanied said feast. I guess I'll just have to console myself with the 70 or so trout that I landed Sunday on the Tuckaseegee. I'm serious, it was the best single day of fishing that I've ever had, anywhere, any type, anytime. We should have drove the extra half hour on Saturday. I really enjoyed hanging with you, Owliepoo, and William at the Nant. You are right, meeting people after gabbing on the board is not like meeting strangers, more like friends that you haven't seen for a long time.

Gimme a T, gimme a U, gimme a C, gimme a K...

Well sounds like we should move the Thanksgiving trip to the Tuck. One nice thing is it is only about half hour drive from Topton. I had a great time also. Everyone was great. Hooch, I bow to your cooking. You can be Cookie anytime. Drifter, thanks for the trip down the river, even if it did look to Richard and me that you did not know where you were going sometime. It was a wild ride. BeeDub, it was great camping next to you till we had the others move in. Glad they had a lot of room.

Looking forward to the next trip and hope all that can will make it up to the Nantahala in two weeks.

For the gruesome details, see the Fish Tales section. I need to tell somebody about this, my wife's eyes kind of glaze over when I tell her...

Ditto what Bee Dubbing said. FairWeather, sorry I missed out on those "perky waitresses" in Etowah.

We had a great time at the Hiwassee. Although we didn't catch any fish I did fish some cheap sunglasses outa the river. We enjoyed meeting some new people and seeing some people from the club. A big hearty thanks to the HoochRat for his hard work in preparing the yummy eats. I need those recipes!!!
