Okay, time is running out for entrants in the Dukes Creek One Fly, which will be held this Friday, April 7th! As of today we don't have an NGTO team registered. Come on folks, this is for a good cause! All, I mean ALL, of the entry fees are given directly to the Youth Education Program at Smithgall Woods.

In light of the long thread posted recently about trout fishing tournaments, let me explain a couple of things. First, this is about as much competition as you would have fishing with your buddies and good-naturedly ribbing each other about who caught the most and the biggest. It's all done in fun to raise money. Secondly, there is absolutely no comparison between this and a bass tournament. Every fish caught is carefully landed, measured while in the water, and released on the spot. Lastly (is this a word?), everyone who has ever participated in this thing has had a great time, enjoyed the comraderie, and got to fish Dukes Creek on a day when no one else could fish it.

Over 5,000 kids from north Georgia will visit Smithgall Woods between now and the end of May and will be exposed to environmental education programs which will help form their future outlook on the importance of clean water. Why not help support the staff at Smithgall?

Thank ya. Thank ya very much.

Many of you express deep concern about corn chunkers, worm flingers, and five gallon plastic buckets full of poached trout. Your support here will help take 5,000 kids through the basics of fisheries conservation and preservation. That's 5,000 future fishers who will have the concept of sport fishing presented to them early. This just might off-set some of their other lessons such as "Tracking the Hatchery Truck", "Stockers for Supper", and "Green Giant or Del Monte".

Besides - you get to do this by going fishing and it sounds like a lot of fun! ---John Kies---
