2nd Annual End of DH Trip

Here we go again. Join us at Brookside Campground for the Second Annual End of Delayed Harvest Trout Fishing Trip. I am planning it for the weekend of May 19 - 21. I will be calling Kathy at Brookside and letting her know, but this time I would like you to call here and let her know if you are going. That way I do not need to try to keep up with the number of people.

On Saturday night, we will have our usual pot luck dinner. Everyone bring something to share. As you post to let us know you are coming, let us know what you are bringing, that way no one will duplicate.

I sure hope we get a good turn out. All of the last trips have been more fun than you can believe. Show up for the time of your life and catch more fish than you can believe.

What's the lowdown on the cabins nearby? My tent is long gone and I don't have the luxury of caravan ownership that Griz does. What town? Names , phone # for cabins, how far away from campground? Anyone stayed there?

OK all, here is the information you requested. First, the main base of operating and fun is Brookside Campground. Please call Kathy there and reserve your space. Let them know you are with the NGTO bunch. I have had her set aside some spaces but she needs to know how many are coming. Phone number is 828-321-5209. For those of you looking for where we are on the map...just look for Topton, NC. It is just below Bryson City, NC.

As far as the cabins, the closest are Nelsons Hideaway Cabins and Campground. Phone 828-321-4407. They are very clean but nothing fancy. If I remember you have to bring your own linen. We had some folks stay in them last Thanksgiving and had no complaints. Old Man, I know there are many more in the Nantahala area that are probably alot nicer, you may want to check with Nantahala Outdoor Center for the name of some if Nelson's is not what you are looking for.

Kiserzoze, as far as you coming up, all you have to do is make your reservations and show up. I do charge a bottle of Vodka to new members. http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/wink.gif We would be glad to have you.

No really, last few times I have been there I have done real well with Hares Ears. Alot of Caddis in the water. Make sure you have some EHC's in the 16-18 size. I have also always done well with small Adams Parachutes for those rising fish.

Been busy on my end. Just pulled out my lawn chair used in the first freeze out DH trip. The chair is burnt up. Small and large burns all over the thing. Wonder how this happened.

Warning To All: If the fire embers come out, run for the hills. Take you chairs, small children and call the fire department. Adults at play, caution.

Looking at the calendar, have not done any thing stupid of late. It is about time.

This past Saturday there was a hatch of Green Drakes on the river. You might want to bring a supply of GRHE in size 8 and size 8 dries.
Mayflies the size of butterflies is an unusual sight.

I plan to fish the river Sunday so I will see some of you this weekend.

Green Drakes!! Did I hear Green Drakes?!!!
I did not even know that they were on the Nantahala. When I fished Penns Creek in Pa a couple of weeks ago, I fished during the spinner fall of March Browns. Never had I seen a mayfly so big. Sure hope the Green Drakes are still here.

Now for the first posting on food for Saturday night. I will be bringing a large pot of Catfish Stew. The bottle of red wine to go along with it will be provided also. Alright, what is everyone else going to donate?

I am looking forward to seeing all of you there. I will be arriving early on Friday, hopefully before lunch. Got to find those Green Drakes.

Well, we had another great trip. Marie and I had a great time. It was good meeting Chris and Deane and seeing the rest of the regulars. Ours thanks to Jeff for loaning us the spare reel.

Marie really loved the river. We fished that pool just above the third bridge, just downstream of the little waterfall (the one I cracked my ribs on last year).

House was still standing when we got home so the trip was a success.
