Chattahoochee Clean Up!

This Saturday June 17th the Tailwater Chapter of Trout Unlimited will be having a Hooch Cleanup from the Buford Hatchery down to Settles Bridge. Everyone is invited. You don't have to be a TU member. Bring a canoe or boat if you have one. We'll be meeting at the Hatchery at 9:00 AM and floating down to Settles Bridge. Remember that lifejackets are required on this stretch of the river. Hotdogs and soft drinks will be supplied after the float. Call Bill Couch at the Hatchery 770-781-6888 if you are planning to help out and whether you can bring a boat. Here's your chance to give back to the Chattahoochee.

Drifter....You can get a canoe out there but your drift boat would be a trick...kind of a narrow path back to the road.....Bill C. has a couple canoes and some kayaks folks can use...

This section was chosen since it gets some pretty good fishing pressure from the banks and also boats moving upsteam but kind of is out of site out of mind as far as clean up.
This will be the first of hopefully a couple cleanups a year....I know riverkeeper and others already does some of this.

So, how did the clean up go?

The clean-up was a success! We only had 8 to show up...no NGTO'ers other than me ...floated/walked from the dam down to the Hatchery instead of the Hatchery to Settles, due to the rain the previous night muddying the water further down the river...... but we managed to fill about 6 50 gal trash bags with bottles, cans , fishing line, etc. Two big tires, three pairs of waders, and misc. other junk.
Had a great time at Bill C.'s afterward..cooked out hotdogs and laid back. A great time. Flygurl, Tentative next clean up is August, the July date is a no go on our end....when is your next meeting...I'll try to get there and discuss.
