This seems worthy of a post!

ANGLERS WANTED!

MAJOR FISH STORY POTENTIAL!

ONLY YOU CAN MAKE A RIVER!

As you may know, Trout Unlimited is involved, as a "stakeholder", in the

collaborative relicensing project for the Tapoco dams, owned by Alcoa,
on the Cheoah and Little Tennessee Rivers near Robbinsville, North
Carolina. For more information about this relicensing go to the Tapoco
Citizen's Resource website at http://www.tcwn.org/tapoco/

The Cheoah River below Santeetlah Dam is currently dewatered by the
diversion of 99.9% of the flow, through a "hydrotunnel", to a generation

facility on the Little Tennessee. This "bypass" reach is being studied
for possible mitigation measures, including adding enough minimum
waterflow to support fish populations and to encourage recreational
fishing opportunities in the nine-mile segment.

As part of the current study, water releases of different amounts will
be made over a three-day period to measure temperature characteristics,
hydrological profiles, whitewater boating utility, and "fishability".
This is where you can help!

We need people who might be interested in participating as anglers in
the upcoming Cheoah River Recreation Study. The study dates for anglers

are Tuesday, July 11-Thursday, July 13, and anglers must be able to
commit to all three days of the
study. Angling participants will be asked to fish the river at 4
different flows and to respond to a survey to evaluate the "fishability"

of the river at the various flows tested. Either fly casting or
spinning gear can be used (we need both represented). If you are
interested in participating or know anyone that might be interested
please contact
Wendy Bley (804) 741-5982 or Bruce DiGennaro (401) 849-6542 immediately.

For some "real" fishing opportunity, the area around the Cheoah and
Robbinsville have some of the better fishing in the state: Santeetlah
Creek, Slickrock Creek, Nantahala River.

Please consider this as an opportunity to use fishing as a tool in our
effort to regain a lost river.
If you have any questions, contact me.

AND PASS THIS EMAIL ALONG TO YOUR FISHING FRIENDS!
