View Full Version : Fly tying meeting

Boots, bbell and Braz are very interested in getting together as an open group forum to discuss and pratice the art of creating a fly from scratch. Since we can always discuss things on the board the enfasiss here will be to actually tie the things, or learn how to tie them by watching it be done in front of your face.

Although I would hold these meetings as sacred as one would a poker night, My rotating schedule would not permit a set night. Thus, I give you my days off this month in the hope that we can get this to be a monthly gathering.

Empanadas and cokes are on me and the grill is open 24/7.

My house is available on july 17-18-19 or
july 27, 28. Those are my off days. I work 3:00 til 11:30 pm.

I know there is a snowbird trip planned for these days. If we get enough people together, i.e. more than just boots and braz, I think I speak for the both of us in saying that we can always go to snowbird another day.

I think using this post as a place to respond would be the best way to keep up with it.The final day would be chosen by the number of people that promise to show up on said day.

Do we have any takers.

Let's get together at the river sometime, say E. Jones Bridge. There are tables and overhead cover. We pick a day and time and a specific pattern to tie. Folks can bring their materials or just look on. Once the flies are tied, we can see how the other NGTOers fish them. Either way count me in.

If the majority wants it that way no gripes from me. I personally think we can get more people to show up later in the evening. Although I love the idea of throwing in a fresh made fly, I was thinking of making this more of a social thing in a relaxed laid back kind of atmosphere - more of an indoor thing, with refreshments and whatnot.

Once again the majority will decide.

Also, to those who answer - please state one of the days which will be good for you.

Braz,

I probably can't make any of those days except maybe Monday or Tuesday but I like the idea. Where do you live anyways? The hooch sites are very convenient for me but you may have to get a permit for a shelter (not sure).

Sunday late afternoon or night is usually a good time for me also.

Sorry I've been away. The only days mentioned so far have been Sundays (EG I hear ya). I so happen to have Sunday Aug 6th free (Sat also if anyone wants to go fishing). It's far enough away to plan for it, and does'nt kill any of my planned outings.
So, I'm game if you are, I'll even clear up the pool by then.
Next on the agenda is - What times are good, how late do ya wanna run, What do you all wanna tie. As for me, anytime is good, as late as you want, Everyone bring either something they know, or bring all the info to tie something they don't know how to tie, or just bring everything you got and we'll decide then.

Thanks for all the responses, let's keep the ball rolling.

Braz
P.S. The place is located in Lilburn at the intersection of HWY 29 and Indian Trail.

I am open for any of those open days. I would rather have it on a weekday because my wife and I are usually enroute to another fishing destination on the weekends. Let me know which day it ends up on...

Hello,

Been awhile since I tied but am now getting back into both tying and fishing. Would love to participate... E. Jones Bridge is good for me just about any weekend.

You would need to reserve it if you wanted to "make" sure it is open. Otherwise you can just show up and take your chances. the downside to that is is costs $$ to reserve it. I can find out how much as our Church is having a picnic there on Aug 12th.

Welcome to posting Marc.

I used to say welcome to NGTO, but if you've been lurking, I guess that wouldn't apply.....anyway, glad to have you with us.
