I'm not sure when the last one happened but I would like to host a FLY SWAP. I'm not sure if I have the technology to put it up on the site but I promise to recieve, archive and send out all of the flies as long as a SASE comes with the entries. I will also personally drive over to the house of the person that can throw it up on NGTO for all to see.

What does everyone think.
No fly will be turned down no matter how basic or ugly. Once we get a list of people who plan to participate, we can set a date.

The list will start on this thread.
Please state what you will tie.
Since I'm in charge, Boots can only enter if he ties the crawdad pattern we used at the Flint.

THis is the currrrent list, always changing ......

Braz,
I've been doing them for a while and had planned on doing one comming up in the fall. But it would be great for someone else to do the next one.
Check my web site @ http://www.georgiaangler.com and follow the links the fly swaps to see how I did them.
Good Luck!
Oh yeah, I'm in!

I'm in. So, what are we tying? Since summer is winding down, should we do our favorite winter patterns? I'm up for anything.

I'll be modifying the first note of this thread as this goes along.

Pattern will be anything we should be throwing this fall/winter.

No date yet until we get some more people.

Someone figure out how we can get this up on NGTO when everything is done.I will take care of everything up until that point.

Y'all enlighten me...what is a fly swap?

fly on the wall
08-08-00, 05:50 PM
bbell:
A fly swap consists of a group of tiers (say 20) that all agree to 20 flies of a particular pattern and send to the host. Once all the flies are in, all 20 tiers get one of each of the others flies. Pretty cool way to see what your fellow anglers use. Everyone usually ties their favorite pattern.
BRAZ:
Came up with two. Y'all decide. I use both of these flies a lot in the winter.
1) blue wing olive no hackle (ala Swisher/Richards)
2) soft hackle pheasant tail tied with fine copper wire-makes it sink better

bbell
08-08-00, 05:57 PM
Ohhh...I was thinking about this deer-hair redfish fly, but 20 of them would be about 15 too many. How about the old Parachute Ant?

Sign me up. Don't know what to tie.

Would somebody give me an example of what a fall/winter fly is?

Since I use these things as learning experiences, can anybody suggest something that is challenging to tie. Yet the materials are relatively common and fairly inexpensive (i.e. I don't have to go out and find muskox fur or something).

I've really been looking at those dead animals on the road in an entirely different perspective lately http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif.

EG..if you find a fly you want to tie and it's some material you don't have and don't want to buy cause you'll probably never use it again..tell me what it is..I've got tons of materials that I'll be happy to share so you can try a different kind of fly. I have lots of materials that I've bought to tie some fly I thought I couldn't live without or that I've gotten an order for somewhere along the way and never used again. Just a thought, let me know if I can help.

One of my favorite fall/winter flies on the Hooch is a beadhead red serendipity. If others don't mind me throwing in such a simple tie, I'd be glad to participate.

ALG

Okay,
Ill do a sparkle dun, I've used it in slower water with a lot of success where a hackled fly doesn't work as well. Takes quite a few picky fish. Ill tie a size 16.
Thanks for doin the swap.

OK, the stage has been set.
All participants have until the 21 of Sept (My Birthday) to tie their flies and get them to me. If they are not sent to me by that time, they will be subjected to shame and ridicule via this Thread, by the other members of the event. If the majority thinks this time frame is unreasonable, tough luck its MY birhtday. Just kidding, post it and we'll see what we can do.

Please send the flies in a crush-proof container with the return postage(enough stamps to send it back).Lable each fly with a slip of paper with its name.

Email me: the name of the fly, materials list, and a description of how to tie it to Braz68@aol.com

As you see there are still a cpouple more spaces, if anyone wants to slide in go ahead and post it and I will put you on the list, the longer you wait the less time you have to tie.

Welome to Braz's 1st Anual Birthday Fly Swap
you will all live in infamy,
LONG LIVE NGTO!

Let me know how you like doing this sort of stuff. Maybe if there's enough interest we can get a Striper/Saltwater flyswap going. If you're not up for sponsoring it, give me a few pointers, and I will.

Hey, I've got the ants tied and I'm ready for the saltwater swap! I've got some real neat, unique patterns (up until last year, a lot of my tying was for saltwater) for that one. The tough thing is tying 20 deerhair mullet or crab patterns.
I have seen Chris' pattern and it is very, very promising...
I'm jacked up about these trout patterns...they sound great...
Oh yeah..I debarbed all but one of the flies - you know who that one goes to http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/wink.gif - but I will tie more barbed versions if anyone prefers that...let me know via email.

Cocoon,

Thanks for the info. I'm sorry I'll miss the opportunity to miss meeting everyone and the flotilla to Holcombe Bridge. I'm concerned that those attending will educate these fish on Saturday to the point that I won't be able to catch any until the State starts stocking again. At least you won't have the secret flies until the next week.

Have fun everybody and be careful in the tubes.

Hello Everyone, Sorry I've been out of touch for a while, but a trip to Chicago for a week and then the somewhat unexpected passing away of my Grandmother in Argentina had me down there for this past week also.

I'm back and ready to get back into the swing of things again.

I saw my address posted up top and the number of flies to be tied is let's say 22 just to be sure.

I'm going to try to make it to the fling, if I can't, I'll try to convince my wife to go with a I'm Braz's Wife T-shirt.How long do you think it will run.If I can get out of work early I might be able to make it around 2:00ish, enfasis on the ish.

For anyone else that can't make the fling remember try to have them at my place
by/on/around the 21st. Remember to try to send me either instructions on the tying and a picture if possible so I can transfer them to a disk and then drive it all over to Arrons house so he can post it up on the board.

BRAZ.

Preston91 I got your mail Thanks.
