Everyone,

As you may have noticed, I asked Braz to change my fly to either a glass bh turkey tail nymph or a griffith's gnat because I didn't receive my neck in the mail to tie those cahills. Is there anything else anyone might be interested in? I tie a mean George nymph for winter fishing (size 10) and can also tie a soft hackle pt with or without bead head. Right now, I am leaning toward the turkey tail nymph b/c I want folks to try it and tell me how it works 'round here. It goes like this:

Hook: 1x or 2x long nymph hook
Bead: Amber or Red glass bead (no plastic, too light)
Thread: Brown 6 or 8
Tail: Goose Biots, forked
Body: Turkey tail, wrapped and tied in by tips
Wingcase: Turkey
Thorax: Peacock
Legs(optional): any brown game bird, partridge, etc.

The best thing about this is the turkey body and the glass bead. I will tie it in amber probably b/c I think this is the best color. Any suggestions or desired patterns? Please vote here. thanks. --edwin

Don't get bunched up. The main purpose of the fly swaps that I have participated in, was to see what flies others used and what little modifications they've made. As you may know, often the most simple, uncomplicated flies catch the most fish. And besides, I have no idea what a George nymph is.

FOTW,

A George Nymph was created by Eddie George for fishing the Smokies. It's an old but effective pattern. It goes like this:

Hook: 2x nymph, usually large 8-12
Weight: Lead wire (optional)
Tail: Brown hackle
Shellback: Turkey tail
Rib: copper wire (optional)
Body: Peacock herl
Legs: Brown Hackle
Then put a white drop of paint right behind the head. I love it and it gets down deep!
