Hello. My name is Owl, and I'm worried about freezing to death.

I was actually pretty ok last trip, but I heard from a reliable source that there was four inches of snow up there the other day !
I would like to have a frostbite trip( you guys said it was sooooooooo much fun), but I'm worried my old sleeping bag(s!) won't keep me warm enough.........anyone got any suggestions? Should I get soem of those chemical handwarmers and throw them in the bags? Build a fire in the tent? Spread ICy-Hot all over my body ! ? http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif

Oh...and before I forget.....I ain't snugglin with any of you, so don't even go there. http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/wink.gif hahaha http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif

Owl,

Check out Hooch's post about the stryofoam for under your sleeping bag. You may also want to go to REI and rent a bag for the weekend that is rated for lower temp. You can get them for pretty cheap rate. Or the best idea is to bring a long extension cord and an electric blanket and you will stay toasty warm.

You can also get fleece blankets and make another sleeping bag inside your original one. Wool socks, hat, warm-up clothing to sleep in. Bucket in tent to avoid those 2 a.m. meetings in the bush as nature calls. Layer your sleeping gear and you should not have any problems. Newspaper under the sleeping bag also works well. Another mistake people make, leave an opening in the tent. During the night your breath gives off moisture (a lot I am told) and this causes you to get even colder. It works, leave some vent open at top of tent and vent the excess moisture that would usually be inside.

By the way, Sams has some real good prices on sleeping bags. Put one bag inside another. Hey that brings up something I have done in the past. Sleep inside a large plastic bag inside your sleeping bag, it works when you are wet. Saved my life once.

Go out tonight and see if your bag is warm enough for you. If not, start adding layers.

Make sure Mrs. Owl will let you back in the house. Might be the best nights sleep she has had in a while.

Or, Owl, you could rent a motor home.....no worries there!
