View Full Version : ROD / LINE QUESTION
I own a SAGE 9ft 5 wt. If I put a 6 wt line on this rod will it cast more like their light line series, that being, slower action, easier to load, cast more delicate?
I don't know about casting more delicate, but the rest is true...many flyfishermen upsize their line. As a matter of fact just last year I started putting 4-weight line on my 4-weight and it was hard to get used to but I like it much better now. I have up until then always used 5-weight line.
I don't think that uping your line weight will change the action of the rod...However you should get a better load and with a 9' rod you will see a difference. You might not see a difference in presentation and as far as being more delicate...that for the most part is controlled by the person casting the rod. Diffenent presentations are controlled by a combination of speed and arm/hand movement.

I use a 5wt line on my 4wt rod when the fishing conditions are tight. The heavier line will load your rod with less line out thus making it easier to make those short cast for close in fishing.
