I have done alot of spin fishing on the Chattoga River in the years past and have always caught alot of Bass. I have heard them refered to as Rock Bass, among other things. I'm not sure what the correct name is, but I was wondering if anybody new of any good fly patterns. I was thinking of trying the usual patterns of bugs and poppers for large mouth that are in Cabelas and other magazines.

Had a ball a few weeks ago fishing Talking Rock Creek for "redeye" -- Coosa Bass. Caught some on wooly buggers and muddlers but the most fun was popping bugs. The fish would jump all over them on the surface -- its a lot more exciting seeing the fish hit. I'd give poppers a try -- seemed a brown one with yellow feather tail worked best but that might have just been a coincidence. -- Tight Lines, JPool

Ken-

I fish the wadeable rivers all summer long for largemouth, and this year, 90% of my fish have been caught on a clouser minnow. I tye mine with bead chain eyes instead of lead eyes - they sink slower and stay shallower that way. This fly in white has consistently produced for me all year long. Generally I fish the poppers early morning and the clouser later in the day. Good luck.
