I am relatively new to the area and have used my float tube a fair amount along the Hooch lately. I was looking at my map and it looks like State Bridge Rd. to Medlock Bridge might be a decent and short (2 hour) float. Can anyone tell me:
1) if you could put in a float tube at State Bridge Rd.
2) how long it would take to float to Medlock Bridge from SBR
3) what kind of water I would encounter (any shoals, or mostly deeps)

Thanks and Tight Lines,

Check out the North side of the bridge just across from the Sweet Bottom entrance...there is a gate there but I have never seen it locked....you can drive down in there along the river but the bank is a little high in most places....mostly deep water with some shallow runs ..pretty typical. Ask Hooker..he knows the river best...I have only done this leg twice.

TC,
The last time I fished this area, I had my truck broken into. If your coming off the river late, the parking area at the ramp is popular with drug dealers and Gays, so be careful.
The area above Medlock does not have any shoals, but there are numerous blowdowns, which make it more habitable for Browns rather than Rainbows. The last time I fished this area, I used a small rainbow trout colored sluggo, and pulled several very nice Browns out of blowdowns. The trick was to throw the bait into the logs 5 or 6 times to finally get their attention.
