View Full Version : The Hooch and the Fling
In all my years of trout fishing I have never considered the 'Hooch worthy of my attention I always pictured opening day on some of the put and take streams where a thousand anglers stood elbow to elbow or cast over each others heads (places I like to avoid). Well the people on this board have convinced me I made a bad mistake, one I intend to correct. Let me get to the point, from reading the postings on this board I understand Prince nymphs (one of my favorites) and woolies are very sucessful flies for the 'Hooch, question is what sizes and what colors for the woolies?

Budman,
I've been fishing the Hooch since '82 and I think that good old black woolies first with olive a close second. I've usually used smaller sizes, 10- 12 (Temco 300 hook)and always had good luck. These are just easier to cast to me, but I know people who will only use a larger one and they seem to do just as well.
Also, if Prince nymphs are your favorite, definetly get some bead heads!
Budman,
Richard has a great memory....I too have the best luck with Black and Olive Bead Head Woolys size #8 to #12....and if you want a killer dropper system us the Prince Bead Head #12 to #16 as a dropper and you will probibly have in my opinion the best set up on the river. There are times when other flies produce better, but all in all this setup does better when fished the right way on the Hooch and alot of other streams in and around GA. Remind me at the Fling to fill you in on a couple great secrets on fishing and tying the Bugger.
P.S. Dont forget the float tub and fishing gear and I can show you first hand.

Thanks guys i'll tie a few up between now and the Fling, really looking foward to doing some fishing with you guys.
Hey FlyGuy, thanks for the info on using a wooly and prince as a dropper. I tried it today at Island Ford and did great (for me).
