Anyone know of a good resource to identify a bamboo rod. I inherited one from my older brother and was trying to figure out what I have. The label on the rod reads "Horrocks-Ibbotson Co. Utica, New York" Then it has "Spinner" etched above the reel seat. It is about 9'6" and is a 3 pc and has a plastic seat. The bamboo is dark brown with violet wrappings and yellow accent wraps. Any info would be appreciated.

Hey Hound O' Buddy

I found a copy of "The Classic Chronicle" a quarterly newsletter for classic tackle collectors and fly fisherman (winter '97) that list several rods by Horrocks-Ibbotson. They all had Bakelite seats and were of different quality. Asking prices varied from $215 to $65. I didn't see a "spinner" model. Is this a fly rod? I just assumed it was, but may not be.

Hound,

I've got some more information for places to find out about your old fly rod.

First, go to www.salmon-river.com/webstops.htm
Click on "Classic Angler"
Click on "Classic Bamboo Flyrods"
Go to bottom of page & click on "Value Guide for Bamboo Fly Rods"
Click on "2nd Edition"
Scroll through to find your manufacturer.

The second option is to contact Martin J. Keane (pronounced "Cane"). He's at PO Box 288, Ashley Falls, Mass. 01222. PH # (413) 229-7988

Good luck.

Jimmy
