This is my first post to the board, but I have been one of those "lurkers" for quite a while now. While I met some of you at the last Fling, I was sorry I was not able meet more. It was an enjoyable gathering, informative and good food as well.

To my point, I am just getting involved and as of yet, do not have a float tube. I would like to join ya'll on some of your floats and I had heard someone mention a brand "caddis". Is this a good one or other recommends?

Secondly, I think Jimmy Harris mentioned a name to me for a fellow who know something of old rods. The one I have is a circa 1970 H.L. Leonard first generation graphite 5wt. I would like to more about it? Anybody know of a good reference source for such a rod as far as quality, value, etc?

Thanks for any info.

I've heard good things about Caddis tubes. Thinking about getting one. I talked to a tube sales rep and he gave me some pointers. Get a inner tube instead of a bladder. I have a Round Boat with a bladder which I will take back. Leaks air. The rep said this is common with bladders. I think the only advantage to a bladder is that it is lighter.
Also get a big tube for stability and safety. 20" or 22" tubes.

We would love to have you float with us. In my honest opinion the caddis is a great tube and would choose it over all the rest. I'll be honest though...I have had a couple of problems with caddis, but I believe it was because of the way I take care of my tube. If you take good care of the tube it will last a good long time. #1 in my book!!!!

P.S. As Netboy said get a 20 or 22" tube...you won't regret it.

Thanks guys for the input. I've also been doing some calling and the response seems ot mimic yours. Netboy, thanks for the recommendation on the tube vs. the bladder - that was not mentioned elsewhere. The 20 or 22 won't be a problem. 6'5" and 230 I would sink like a wet fly so I will get the largest they have.

I look forward to floating with you guys very soon. It's amazing how every time you talk to someone that loves flyfishing, you begin to realize just how little you understand after only a year or two - the beautiful part though is that your never too old to learn and I can always fish from a wheelchair!!

Thanks.
