View Full Version : Rod Building
Duck season isn't quite over and I'm already thinking about gearing up for the spring. I think I'm going to build my own rod during the slow season ( March ). I want a 9' 5wt. Are there any reccomended books on the subject? What about general tips and pointers? I have no experience at this whatsoever, and want a rod that looks good finished as well as performs well.
Thanks,
Denver

The Flex Coat Co., PO Box 190, Driftwood, TX, 78619 puts out a neat 52 pg paperback titled "Start to Finish Fly Rod Building" by Ryan Seiders and Dan Smith. "The Custom Graphite Fly Rod" by Skip Morris is good too. Both are available at flyshops and in catalogs. I would go to " Ask Unicoi Outfitters" here on the board and ask Jimmy Harris what they have available

There is a store in Roswell near the square called Parker's. These guys have been building and repairing for who knows how long. They may be able to point you in the right direction. I had them build me a rod a few years back. There knowledge was unsurpassed.
