My wife and I are going up to DRI for a romantic Valentine weekend next weekend. It just so happens, as you all know, the romantic cabins are placed on a trout stream.
Do you have any pattern/size suggestions for up there this time of year?

Any advice would be appreciated.

FFdou.....The Black or Olive Wolly work well and a bead or tungstun head prince has been really good the times that I have fished there. You might want to ask Bruce for a little insight on patterns and sizes. I think he know stocks Brookies in the stream and they are beautiful. This place is top knotch and you'll go back again and again.

P.S. Flyrods make great V-day gifts :)

Let us know how you did....

What a beautiful place to get away and relax. My wife and enjoyed our stay immensely. The cabin was great, especially the fireplace after it got too dark to fish.

As for fishing, we have a lot to learn. We saw plenty of fish. My wife hooked up with one, but wasn't able to land it. And we saw four others caught out our window while warming up. I blame it on the weather, but our learning curves with wary trout are still on the upswing. The cold snap didn't help. At one point on Saturday, we were wading in 25 degree air temperature and 38 degree water with snow falling (which was kind of cool to see.) Even dressed with many layers, it was nice to have the opportunity to go in and get warm every couple of hours with the cabin only a few feet away.

Bruce has an excellent fishery going there. He stocks Brookies, Rainbow, and Brown. Man are they big and plentiful. We definately plan to go back, when we can afford the trip or can find friends to share the cost of the cabin. In answering Jeff/Nightowl, the cabins run $125-150/ night which is steep until you realize they can sleep up to 6 people (ours had 3 bedrooms which 2 double bed, 2 single beds and I think the couch was a hide-away.

The fishery was great, the cabins and scenery were beautiful and for a fishing break (or to appease the wife http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif ) one can also spend a couple hours in Blue Ridge shopping if you so desire
