Does anyone know why some streams are designated rivers, and others creeks. The Coleman River for example is smaller than most creeks, and Fightingtown Creek is larger than some rivers. The only thing I can figure is not the volume of water, but the length of the stream. Just something I have been curious about for many years.

I am thinking that I , too, have no idea ! http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif
possibly the Indians named them and our translations varied, or mabye there's no ryme or reason. It is an interesting thing, though. The Coleman looks like a "river" if your standing in the right spot ! http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif
It all depended on who named the river or stream or creek or whatever. This has been going on since the settlers arrived. The names came from generally uneducated people (or considering that even the language was not as "standardized" as it is today). There IS no rhyme or reason to the naming of waterways!!!
