Im new to fly fishing for trout, but have used my flyrod on pan fish. Could someone give me some help selecting flies that might work well in the island ford section of the hooch?
Chunker,
Do a search for flies or fly selection on this board - lots of recent posts on this topic. I will share my favorites and those I know others use. Check out the Hatch Chart for the southern Appalations at http://web.utk.edu/%7Eldecuir/hatch.htm.
Dries: Elk Hair Caddis, Adams, Adams parachute, Blue Wing Olive,
Wets: Wooly Worms, Soft Hackles
Nymphs: Prince, Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear, Pheasant Tail, (same with bead-heads), stoneflies (Montana, Ted's)
Streamers: Wooly Buggers (olive, black, some with flash and most with bead-heads), Muddlers
Terrestrials: ants, hoppers, San Juan worms, beetles, bees
Hope it helps,
Loren
Chunker,
I gather from your other posts that you are just trying out fly fishing. The list above would cost a small fortune, so try starting out with these
Olive and Black Wooly Buggers (bead-heads) size 8 or 10.
Adams size 16, 14
Elk Hair Caddis, size 12, 14
Prince, Gold Ribbed Hairs Ear, #14 bead-heads
These will fit in a Plano box bought at Walmart
